An honest comparison
OrderNest vs Petpooja
Petpooja is the most widely used restaurant billing system in India, and if you are on it, everything you use is here. The difference is the cost side of your numbers: a real ledger, live food cost, and agents that act on them. Below is what each side actually ships, including where Petpooja is ahead.
Terminology
What Petpooja calls it, what OrderNest calls it.
Same jobs, different packaging. This is the map you need when reading the two feature lists.
| Petpooja term | OrderNest equivalent | Why it differs |
|---|---|---|
| Petpooja POSS | POS & billing | Same job. Captain mode and KDS are part of the same app and licence here. |
| Captain App (add-on) | Captain mode | Role-gated inside the POS app; no second app or licence. |
| Attendo | Staff & payroll | Attendance, face kiosk and payroll are in the product, not a separate SKU. |
| Purchase Manager | Purchasing | PO, GRN, supplier bills and purchase price variance posted to the ledger. |
| Online Order Reconciliation | Aggregator Auditor (coming) | Reconciles the payout and posts commission, ads and TDS as journal lines. |
| Dynamic Reports / 80+ reports | Reports & insights | Fewer reports, but financial statements come from a real ledger. |
| Tally / Zoho sync (export) | Books & close | We are the ledger; Tally and Zoho receive vouchers from it. |
| Ask Me Anything | Ask OrderNest (early access) | Both answer questions. Ours also reads the books, and the other agents act on the answer. |

Pricing math
One outlet, ₹30 lakh a month, delivery-heavy.
What the fee looks like next to what the system is for. Indicative; your numbers will differ.
- Petpooja Scale — about ₹30,000 a year plus add-ons for captain app, KDS, reconciliation and payroll (Attendo)
- OrderNest Platform — ₹15,000 a year, captain, KDS and payroll included
- OrderNest Agents — ₹3,500 a month, ₹42,000 a year
- Two points of food cost on ₹30 lakh — ₹60,000 a month, ₹7.2 lakh a year, which is what the agents are built to recover
When Petpooja wins
Stay on Petpooja if
- You need ONDC, Zomato Dining reservations, a self-service kiosk or a weighing scale today, not next year.
- You run outlets in the UAE or South Africa and need multi-currency now.
- Your accountant is happy with a Tally export and you do not want books inside the POS.
- You want fourteen years of track record and a reseller in every city.
When OrderNest wins
Switch if
- Food cost, labour cost or supplier price creep is where your margin goes, and you find out at month end.
- You want a trial balance that is already balanced, not a file your CA rebuilds.
- You pay separately for captain, KDS and payroll and want them in one price.
- You want the system to tell you what happened, in rupees, on WhatsApp, before you ask.

Switching takes a week. Here is the path.
Questions
What people ask before switching.
Will my staff have to relearn billing?
The POS covers the same flows: KOT, tables, split and merge, settlement, NC, khata. Most cashiers are productive on day one. Captain mode is the same app, so there is one less thing to learn.
Can I keep sending vouchers to Tally?
Yes. OrderNest is the ledger and Tally receives XML vouchers in batches, duplicate-proof. Your CA can keep working in Tally while the books live here.
What happens to my Zomato and Swiggy listings?
Nothing on their side. We reconnect the integration, orders arrive on the kitchen screen, and commission is posted as a cost line per order.
Is my data locked in?
No. Your data, including the full ledger, exports at any time, and for 180 days after cancellation.
What if I need something Petpooja has and you do not yet?
Check the table above. Reservations, payout reconciliation and feedback are on the roadmap; a kiosk and ONDC are not. If a row blocks you, say so in the demo and we will tell you the date or say no.
